Tortuguero to San Jose

Tortuguero -San Jose 2 Days/ 1 Night

Tortuguero is a popular destination due to the large population of turtles that come to nest between early June and mid-October every year. It also has many canals teeming with wildlife that can be explored by small boat in the National Park.

Pick up from your hotel in Cahuita is at 8:30 in a private shuttle to the dock in Moin where your boat to Tortuguero waits you. During the 4 hour boat trip your guide and Captain will point out the abundant wildlife on the way. It is possible to see caimans, toucans, sloths, monkeys and tropical birds.

Upon arrival you will be met by a local guide who will escort you to your hotel and arrange your choice of tours. The evening Turtle Watch or Insect Tour(depending on the season) or the canoe tour of the canals in the National Park.

You are free the rest of the afternoon to explore the town of Tortuguero. Activities include the local beaches and trails in the National Park. The Turtle Museum or strolling through the town itself with its colorful houses.

If you chose an evening tour you will meet your guide for either the Night Walk in the National Park to observe the Turtles nesting or on a private garden trail to observe the wide variety of insects and frogs including the red eyed frog.

If you chose the morning canoe tour you will be up in the early hours for your boat tour of the canals in the National Park to observe all the wildlife.

The trip back to the mainland starts with a 12 noon 1 hour boat trip to La Pavona harbor where a private shuttle will be waiting to take you the rest of the way to San Jose arriving at 4pm.
