Gandoca-Manzanillo Reserve

This National Park, located 12 kilometers southeast of Puerto Viejo, is 5,303 hectares of protected rainforest full of local wildlife such as tapirs, sloths, monkeys, toucans, hawk eagles, crocodiles, manatee as well as sea life.

A coral reef and turtle nesting areas are also part if this protected area. The Park and its trails can be muddy so it is best to wear proper hiking boots and many visitors say a local guide really helps to spot animals and birds , as there are 358 different species of birds in the park.
