This tour is for those who want a full immersion experience into the day to day lives of a modern day Indigenous community. The village, which lies on the banks of the Yorkin River can only be reached by boat and is made in a traditional dugout canoe.
The river stretches alongside prime rainforest jungle, banana and cacao plantations. Crossing over a hanging bridge, you will arrive in the village of Yorkin and meet your hosts for your stay.
The lodging will be traditional thatched roof hut on stilts. After you have settled in to your accommodations lunch will be served and for dessert you will make your own chocolate and a chocolate dipping sauce for fresh fruit. Activities include: A lecture on the goals of the community to foster cultural and environmental education; tour and explication of medicinal plants and their healing properties, a display of handcrafts and how traditional thatched roofs are made.
After dinner, the evenings entertainment will be storytelling. Enjoy the evening listening to ancient stories that have been passed down through generations.
The next morning after breakfast you will enjoy a hike through the local jungle to learn more about the wildlife and plant life of the area before your return trip to Cahuita.
